Next Gen - NGCN
The joint project "Next Generation City Networking" (NGCN) at HafenCity University Hamburg is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transportation (BMV) as part of the "Deutsches Zentrum für Mobilität der Zukunft" (DZM). It is part of the structure of the "Hanseatic Wireless Innovation Competence Center" (HAWICC) together with other projects.
NGCN aims to make a contribution to the infrastructure side of mobility by incorporating innovative wireless technologies and AI. A digital twin of an urban district is to be developed for the specific application of route optimisation for emergency vehicles and for overarching objectives in the planning of a city of short distances. This brings together static and dynamic data on the traffic situation in an urban real-time image.
Aims of the project
The aim is to develop an intelligent, joined (traffic) infrastructure. Several institutions and companies are cooperating, focussing on three topics:
PIONEER_6G Development of a basic platform for a new type of mobile radio network structure with wave field synthesis technology for positioning and fast data transmission.
SUMO_15 Supporting the realisation of the 15-minute city concept through intelligent networking and sensor fusion.
EMERGENCY Optimisation of emergency care through better situational awareness and more efficient rescue chains.
The joined infrastructure of NGCN will also serve as a platform for other smart applications – such as traffic flow control or personalised security concepts.
