Connections for Structural Glass Elements

Glass has no material plasticity. For this reason a brittle glass breakage occurs at positions with higher peak tension stresses. These stresses can be limited by means of proper connection design. In mechanical connectors, such as point or bolted connector, the glass surface quality in the drilled glass borehole and the interlayer material between the steel part and the glass surface must be optimized. In case of high-strength glued connections cohesive and adhesive forces under weather related influences must be verified.

New design and quality assurance methods have to be developed for these connections.
