Material Flow Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment

Target

The target of the module is to understand the principles and application of Material Flow Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment. The lecture imparts of different types of environmental policy measures.
The lecture imparts the principles of Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), their foundations, extensions and limitations. Computer aided Life Cycle Assessment (according to ISO 14044) and relevant applications, such as goal and scope definition, life cycle inventory analysis (including data collection, definition of system boundaries, modelling of material flows), life cycle impact assessment  
( including selection of impact categories, category indicators, characterization models, normalization) and life cycle interpretation are further subjects of the course.

Task

The students have to deliver a semester work and a comprising report. Regular participation in the lecture is expected as well as a successful completion of a student report and an oral presentation.
