Open Access Week
“Who Owns Our Knowledge?” — This question is the focus of this year’s International Open Access Week, taking place from October 20 to 26, 2025. Libraries and research institutions are participating in this global event with events and offers.
This year’s theme, “Who Owns Our Knowledge?”, aims to broaden the perspective: While the past two years have focused on the importance of non-commercial, scholar-led routes to Open Access, the discussion now turns to the entire process of creating and disseminating scholarly knowledge. Who owns the resulting knowledge? Who controls its use and distribution? And last but not least: To what extent can open research and publishing practices help scholarly communities regain control over these processes and maintain their independence?
Coffee Lecture
“Open Up Your Research! Tips for Everyday Practices” is therefore the topic of our Coffee Lecture for this year’s Open Access Week, to which we warmly invite you. The 30-minute session will take place online via Zoom on October 21, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. HCU staff members can find the Zoom details in HCU intern/Bibliothek on the right-hand side.
Are you already familiar with the library’s Open Access services? You can find a brief overview under Research and Publishing. Detailed information for staff members is available in HCU intern/Bibliothek in the Publishing and Open Access at HCU section.
Open access is free access to scientific information on the Internet. Open access publications are publications that are publicly accessible on the Internet and can be read, downloaded, and reproduced in full text without restriction and at no cost to the users or to anyone interested.
