Members of HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) can order books and articles that are not available in Hamburg libraries using the interlibrary loan system. The delivery time is one to three weeks, most articles can be delivered within a few days.
Step by step
Getting registered for Interlibrary loan
In addition to your library card you need an interlibrary loan account with at least 1.50 € of credit. Please contact us at the service desk.
Each request of books and copied articles (up to 40 pages) costs EUR 1.50. When requesting more than 40 pages additional costs may arise. The interlibrary loan fees will be charged in accordance to the "Gebührensatzung" regardless of the success of your order.
Find and request
As soon as an interlibrary loan account has been set up, start your search: either in the Union catalogue called GVK, which is the catalogue of seven German federal states and the Foundation of Prussian Cultural Heritage participating in the Common Library Network (GBV) or in the literature search engine of the HCU library (filter "Libraries" > "Supraregional Catalog").
After a successful search, you click the button "copy request" or "loan request". After the identification via the number of your library account (43700...) and the password fill out the form. Click on “request” for the final confirmation.
Pick up requested literature
As soon as your orders have arrived you will be informed by an email sent by the HCU-library. From that moment on ordered book has to be picked up within the loan period.
You may also check the status of your requests via your interlibrary loan account .
