paperboy - your virtual shelve for journals (BETA)
Keeping up to date with journals - this is now possible with our new web service paperboy. With the help of cover images, we graphically present a selection of the most important journals available at HCU as a supplementary search entry to the library catalogue. You have easy and intuitive access to the current contents of a journal. Subscribe to the tables of contents of the journals you would like to be informed about regularly.
In paperboy you will find a selection of journals available in print or online at HCU. In addition to availability via the HCU library, selection criteria include relevance to the HCU's teaching and research fields, frequency of use and also needs that you have identified.
All printed journals that the HCU Library continuously subscribes can be found in the Journals Lounge in alphabetical presentation. All journals available online can be found in the library catalogue and in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB).
Find the core journals in your subject field available via HCU with one click.
paperboy presents printed and online journals by subject field. You can filter the titles by Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Geoinformatics, Engineering and Technology, Natural Sciences, Sociology, City & Space and Environment & Energy.
Follow the journals that are relevant to you! As soon as a new issue is published, you will be informed by email.
For online journals, just click on the article you are interested in.
Set up alerts to be informed about articles on specific topics.
You can create a personal profile with reading lists or by saving favourites.
By the way, the interface is optimised for all devices.
For a quick search for up-to-date papers, paperboy can be helpful. For this you can also activate an automatic email notification after login. You will then be informed as soon as something new is published on your topic.
paperboy is not designed for a broad literature search for articles. On the one hand, you will only find articles from the journal selection included, and on the other hand, the search only runs via the abstracts and the individual tables of contents. For a comprehensive literature search use

> Scopus
> Search Engine of the HCU Library / Library catalog
In the "Entdecken" section, the title pages of all the journals included are displayed. You can also filter these by subject ("Filter einblenden").
For legal licensing reasons, access to the online journals is only possible within the university. HCU members can access the digital contents from outside after login and starting the VPN client. Personalised services such as creating favourites and reading lists are also only possible for HCU members.
After logging in, the interface is briefly introduced. You can access this information at any time in the menu via your account ("How the VUB | paperboy works"). Here you will also find a manual. You can also take a look at an introductory video on Youtube (2:51 minutes).
The library offers advisory service, crash courses, coffee lectures and workshops on various topics.
