Information for the start of your studies

Welcome to the library!

We are glad that you are here and we wish you success in your studies. Here we have compiled and linked all the important information about the library for you.

The library

The library entrance is located on the ground floor in the foyer across from the mensa.

Our opening hours
Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Our service hours
Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Information for students with disabilities or chronic illness is available here.

Are you curious? Then take a look at our library on the moodle learning platform:

-> Virtual tour through the library

All books and media available in the library can be found here, whether printed or digital:

-> literature search engine

This is our library catalog. In addition you can also find the book collections of other Hamburg libraries or you can search for articles.

On the ground floor and on the first floor you can find current books classified by subject. We offer important textbooks several times and/or as e-books. We also collect bachelor and master theses on our repository.

We show you how to find literature in our catalog and on the shelf on the learning platform moodle:

-> Suchen & Finden für Bachelorstudierende (german only)

-> Search & Find for Master students

You can simply take (almost) all of our books off the shelf and borrow them via our self-check-system. The loan period is four weeks. You can renew the loan period up to three times after that (if nobody else reserves the book).

Before borrowing for the first time you need to activate your HCU-card as a library card. Please fill out the form on our website. Then present your identity card (or passport plus registration of residence “Meldebescheinigung”) and HCU-card to us at the service desk. Alternatively, you can send us a scan of your identity card and your HCU card (front and back). Please use your HCU email address for this purpose.

We are showing you on the learning platform moodle how to registrate via the website and how to use the library account:

-> Library Card and Library Account

You can access our licensed e-books, e-journals and databases within the HCU network. If you are studying at home, you have to login via VPN or Shibboleth. You simply need your HCU ID and password.

> Bibliothek@home (in German only, on the learning platform moodle)

> Information about using e-media

> Using Shibboleth
