Hamburg-Copenhagen Urban Challenge

Engage across borders and academic disciplines. Tackle the world’s toughest urban challenges.

The Hamburg-Copenhagen Urban Challenge is a summer school jointly offered between HCU, the Technical University of Denmark, and the Copenhagen Business School. In August 2018, international student teams will come together to conduct a comparative analysis of HafenCity in Hamburg and Nordhavn in Copenhagen and develop innovative and implementable project proposals. For both regions, we will identify opportunities to respond to the changing needs of the future city - focusing on the potential of nature-based solutions.

Course Dates:
Hamburg: August 6th – August 14^th
Travel Day: August 15th
Copenhagen: August 16th – August 24^th

We offer grants of 275 EURO to all students attending the course. The course is open to HafenCity University master students in Urban Planning, Urban Design and REAP as a 5 CP elective. The course language is English.

Engage across borders and academic disciplines. Tackle the world’s toughest urban challenges.

Join us in August 2017 for the Hamburg-Copenhagen Urban Challenge. Together with students from the Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen Business School, we will conduct a comparative analysis of HafenCity in Hamburg and Nordhavnen in Copenhagen, contextualizing both districts within the larger development patterns of the metro-regions. For both regions, we will identify public, private, and nonprofit sector actions that shape solutions to issues such as climate change, immigration, or social income disparities. The partner company Rambøll will share insights and experience as a leading engineering and design consultancy in Nordhavnen. Be part of developing innovative, trans-disciplinary and practice-oriented solutions to the most pressing urban issues. The core seminar will take place during the month of August 2017 in Copenhagen and Hamburg. The dates are:

Copenhagen: August 17^th – August 25^th

Stadtentwicklung und Naturschutz in Hamburg

Hamburgs Stadtentwicklung steht vor großen Herausforderungen. Stetig wachsende Bevölkerungszahlen führen zu einer kontinuierlich steigenden Nachfrage nach zusätzlichem Wohnraum. Diese Entwicklungen werden dadurch verstärkt, dass auf-grund internationaler Krisen auch in Hamburg täglich Geflüchtete ankommen, deren Unterbringung eine wichtige humanitäre Aufgabe darstellt.

Hamburg verfügt als Stadtstaat allerdings nur über begrenzte Flächenressourcen. Der Siedlungsdruck auf die Freiflächen steigt und stellt somit auch den Hamburger Naturschutz vor große Herausforderungen.

Die Fachtagung greift dieses Spannungsfeld auf. Gemeinsam mit VertreterInnen aus Politik, Verwaltung, Wissenschaft und dem NGO-Bereich wollen wir mögliche Lösungsansätze diskutieren und zu einem nachhaltigen Miteinander von Stadtentwicklung und Naturschutz in Hamburg und der Metropolregion beitragen.

10. DoKoNaRa - 18. bis 21.07.2016

Große Transformation: Nachhaltige Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung als Herausforderung

Die HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) lädt zusammen mit den Universitäten Innsbruck, Kassel und Liechtenstein zum diesjährigen Internationalen DoktorandInnenkolleg Nachhaltige Raumentwicklung (DoKoNaRa) ein. Die DokoNaRa bietet jungen Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus den Bereichen Stadt- und Regionalplanung/Raumplanung, Regionalwissenschaften, Geographie, Architektur, Soziologie, Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie etc. einen inspirierenden Rahmen, sich im interdisziplinären Dialog zu vernetzen, in Werkstattgesprächen ihre laufenden Dissertationsprojekte vorzustellen und im Austausch mit Professoren und anderen jungen Forscherinnen und Forschern zu diskutieren.

Call for Abstracts
Im Mittelpunkt der DoKoNaRa 2016 stehen die „Große Transformation – Nachhaltige Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung als Herausforderung“. Das Leitthema orientiert sich an dem Hauptgutachten aus 2011 des wissenschaftlichen Beirats der Bundesregierung für Globale Umweltveränderungen (WBGU), welches die Notwendigkeit zu einer umfassenden Transformation zur Nachhaltigkeit bzw. zu einer nachhaltigen Gesellschaft ausdrücklich betont. Voraussichtlich im April 2016 wird vom WBGU ein neues Hauptgutachten zum Thema „Globale Urbanisierung und Nachhaltigkeit“ veröffentlicht, das die Thematik der Transformation noch expliziter auf Stadt und Region beziehen wird.

Leitfragen
Auf der DoKoNaRa wollen wir gemeinsam beispielsweise die folgenden Leitfragen sowie die individuellen Beiträge von DoktorandInnen diskutieren:

• Welche sozialen, wirtschaftlichen und umweltbezogenen Trends treiben die Transformationsprozesse
   in Städten und Regionen an?
• Welche Einflüsse haben Trends wie der demografische und der Klimawandel auf eine nachhaltige
   Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung?
• Welche Visionen und Zukunftsvorstellungen nachhaltiger Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung sind im
   Zuge der Transformation denkbar?
• Welche Handlungsfelder der Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung sind besonders vom Wandel betroffen
   und wie könnte eine Transformation aussehen?
• Welche Instrumente und Regelungsformen können für eine nachhaltige Raumentwicklung an
   gewendet bzw. ausgestaltet werden?
• Wie können Umsetzungsprozesse für den Wandel nachhaltig gestaltet werden?

Idealerweise orientieren sich die Vorträge an den Leitfragen, allerdings sind auch Vorträge zu verwandten Fragen sowie aus benachbarten Disziplinen willkommen. Nach der DokoNaRa sollen die Beiträge in einem Tagungsband, der nach Peer-Review-Kriterien erstellt wird, veröffentlicht werden. Dementsprechend ist die DoKoNaRa Anmeldung mehrstufig aufgebaut. Die erste Phase ist die Einreichung eines Abstracts, das für die Zulassung zur Teilnahme entscheidend ist. Die zweite Phase besteht aus der Abgabe eines Thesenpapiers und eines Posters. Das Thesenpapier dient als Grundlage für die Diskussionen auf der DokoNaRa und wird vorher digital an alle TeilnehmerInnen versandt. Die Poster bringen die TeilnehmerInnen mit, sie werden während der DokoNaRa ausgestellt.

• Paper: 2.000 bis 3.000 Wörter
• Poster A0 (Text, Grafiken, Bilder, frei zu gestalten)
• Präsentation (wird von den DoktorandInnen zur DoKoNaRa mitgebracht)

18. bis 21.07.2016: Wir freuen uns auf Ihre Teilnahme an der DoKoNaRa
• inkl. Präsentation und Ausstellung eines eigenen Posters; Hinweis: Die Poster sind von den
   TeilmehmerInnen in A0 zur Veranstaltung selbst mitzubringen
• Für die Veröffentlichung von Beiträgen nach der DoKoNaRa wird es einen Abgabetermin Anfang
   Oktober geben. Details werden spätestens auf der DoKoNaRa bekannt gegeben.

Hinweis: Für die Teilnahme an der DoKoNaRa 2016 wird ein Teilnehmerbeitrag von 80,-€ erforderlich (inkl. Mittagessen, Kaffeepausen, Exkursion und ÖPNV). Für die An- und Abfahrt sind die TeilnehmerInnen selbst verantwortlich und tragen hierfür auch selbst die Kosten. Hotelzimmer sind reserviert. Bitte geben Sie uns bis spätestens zum 07.07.2016 verbindlich Bescheid, ob Bedarf an einem Hotelzimmer besteht.

Join us in August 2016 for the Hamburg-Copenhagen Urban Challenge. From carbon emissions to immigration, today’s global challenges demand our attention. Together with students from Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen Business School, we will conduct a comparative analysis of HafenCity in Hamburg and Nordhavnen in Copenhagen contextualizing both districts within the larger development patterns of the metro-regions. For both regions, we will identify public, private, and nonprofit sector actions that shape solutions to issues such as climate change, immigration or social income disparities. The partner company Rambøll will share insights and experience as a leading engineering and design consultancy. Be part of developing innovative, trans-disciplinary and practice-oriented solutions to the most pressing urban issues. The summer school is structured as a 5 to 10 ECTS accredited, project-based intensive four-week course in Copenhagen and Hamburg. The core seminar will take place:

Copenhagen: August 1st – August 12^th
Hamburg: August 15th – August 26th

During the course we will work together in mixed study-groups across cultural and disciplinary backgrounds. HCU offers grants of 275 EURO to all students attending the course. To earn 10 CP for the summer school, an M2-Project will be offered during the winter semester 2016 for Urban Planning Students. REAP and Urban Design Students can attend the summer school as an elective for 5CP.

The Urban Challenge Programme is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The Urban Challenge is a collaboration between HafenCity University, the Copenhagen Business School, the Technical University of Denmark and the partner companies Rambøll, HafenCity GmbH, Handelskammer Hamburg and STRING network to address urgent challenges and sustainability issues across urban settings. CONFERENCE 20.-22.09.2016

FehmarnBelt Days 2016

Background information
Fehmarnbelt Days Taking place for the third time, after 2012 in Hamburg/Lübeck and 2014 in Copenhagen, the Fehmarnbelt Days (FBD) provide a now established cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary platform for stakeholders from the emerging Fehmarnbelt Region and beyond to exchange ideas and experiences as well as to discuss key issues and cross-border collaborations. The three-day event aims at connecting diverse themes from business, science and society. Covered thematic fields range from e.g. material science, biotech, medical engineering, renewable energy, urban as well as regional planning and development, tourism, transport and logistics to education and research. At the Fehmarnbelt Days, additionally, a variety of social and cultural events and activities will be presented and it is our ambition to raise general interest about the region in the public. The conference will be free of charge for attendants and open to the interested public. We expect around 800 attendants throughout these three days.The Fehmarnbelt Days 2016 will be held at the HafenCity University Hamburg from 20 until 22 September 2016.

Fehmarnbelt Days Organizers
Four Fehmarnbelt Days 2016 Organizers arrange the event as equal partners. Fehmarnbelt Business Council, Fehmarnbelt Committee, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and STRING. All partners are committed to using their capabilities to increase awareness regarding the Fehmarnbelt Region. This is measured in the number of new initiatives related to cross-border development in business, science, administration, politics and society. It is the organizers’ ultimate aim to contribute to an integrative region-building process wherein economic, ecological and social aspects for the whole region, the corridor from Northern Germany via Denmark to Southern Sweden, are taken into consideration.

Fehmarnbelt Days Activity Partners
The FBD activity partners use the Fehmarnbelt Days to pursue their own activities within the context of the joint FBD forum. This results in an enhanced visibility of their specific activity and extends the sphere of influence beyond the usual target group. Accordingly, this is the perfect opportunity to obtain the attention of people from different sectors and a varying background.
