Information on the corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) and instructions for the winter semester 2020/21

updated on 27.11.2020

Information for students

Until the end of the year, courses will take place almost exclusively in digital form. For further details, please refer to the information provided on this page.

We hope that we will be able to start the originally planned attendance courses at the beginning of 2021, always in compliance with the established protection and hygiene plans.

How and to what extent teaching at the HCU is possible under pandemic conditions, is determined by the applicable legal foundations and the room conditions.

Please bear in mind that the incidence of infection can change at any time. Therefore, planning and decisions must always be adapted to the current situation.

The basis for any classroom teaching at the HCU is the observance and obligatory compliance with the general regulations of infection protection and the framework protection concept (Document in German) developed and updated by the responsible authorities in coordination with the Institute for Hygiene and Environment and the Office for Occupational Safety and Health.

This includes in particular the adherence to a maximum number of participants on the premises of the HCU as well as the documentation of the participants for tracing possible chains of infection. It is crucial for all of us that these requirements are adhered to and that a consistent tracing of chains of infection can be carried out.

In addition to the generally applicable framework concept, the library, the campus shop, the cafeteria, as well as laboratories and workshops also have their own local protection and hygiene concepts.

Public area: Ground floor, 1st and 2nd floor

HCU students can regularly enter the premises of the HCU main building, which are marked as public and released for teaching, via both entrances "West" and "East". This applies insofar as they pursue an activity directly related to their studies or their tasks as tutors and student assistants. Unfortunately, this also means that students are not allowed to stay unnecessarily on the premises and on the HCU grounds.

A full-time mask duty in the bulding is indispensable. It goes without saying that all other hygiene and protection measures, such as the distance rule, must also be observed wherever possible.

Routing HCU main building ground to 2nd floor

Partial public area: 3rd floor

On the partially public 3rd floor, the laboratories and workshops as well as the committee room are accessible to students, as far as this is absolutely necessary, for example, if they are registered for a course.

Non-public area: 4th and 5th floor

The 4th and 5th floors are completely non-public areas where access is only permitted to HCU staff. External third parties, i.e. also guests, as well as lecturers, students, tutors and student assistants are not allowed to enter these areas.

The reception with porter is located on the 3rd floor in front of the staircase to the 4th floor.

In the university building, during courses and all other meetings on HCU premises, the obligation to wear a mouth and nose protector applies. If on-site lecture is possible, lecturers may may remove their mask while lecturing.

Apart from this, a strict mask obligation applies throughout the building. Please wear the mask over mouth AND nose. Please strictly observe the obligation to wear masks! Protecting each other must be a top priority for all of us.

A mobile security guard is present in the public areas. On the one hand, he or she is the contact person for questions of orientation, but on the other hand, he or she will make sure that the rules of distance and the obligation to wear a mask are consistently observed. In the event of non-compliance, persons may be expelled from the building.

Until the end of 2020 courses will take place almost exclusively in digital form. Classroom courses will only be offered sporadically and if absolutely necessary. These will mainly be courses which require student use of laboratories, workshops and PC pools on site. Further details can be found in the lecture portal.

We hope that we will be able to start the originally planned attendance courses at the beginning of 2021, always in compliance with the established protection and hygiene plans.

In case of attendance course, he protection and hygiene concept for courses generally applies (document in German). We strongly urge all students to strictly adhere to the guidelines. This includes, for example, that only those persons who have registered for the course may be present in the classrooms, and that they must also register in the list of participants. This serves to trace possible chains of infection. Furthermore, the furniture in the rooms may not be changed or rearranged.

The canteen is closed until further notice. The cafeteria exclusively offers a "to-go"-service:

Opening hours: 8.30 - 14.00 hours
Hot meals: 11.30 - 13.30

The direct access from the HCU building to the canteen is closed. Until further notice, the cafeteria is only accessible from the outside from the side of Henning-Voscherau-Platz via the separate entrance and exit.

The Studierendenwerk is again solely responsible for the cafeteria and café premises. For further details on the protection and hygiene concept, please consult the website of the Studierendenwerk.

The library of the HCU maintains a comprehensive online offer of digital media, which is constantly being expanded and is available to all students. In addition, students can use the library on the basis of a reduced service offer.

The hygiene and protection concept has been expanded so that workstations can be offered to a limited extent. You can find detailed information in the library's FAQ for students and employees of HCU.

The campus shop is open, and a separate hygiene and protection concept applies. Please observe the relevant instructions on site and strictly comply with the corresponding regulations.

Infothek and Student Administration are available as usual by telephone or e-mail:

Reachability of the Infothek

Reachability of the student administration

Documents for the Infothek, the Student Administration Office and the Examinations Office can be submitted directly via the accordingly labelled letterbox in the foyer in front of the entrance to the library. Of course, you can also send your documents by post or digitally to the respective e-mail address.

Unfortunately, due to the current situation, the student workplaces on the 1st floor and in the Campus Tower cannot be allocated as planned. However, the student workstations in the library can be reserved.

In the winter semester 2020/2021, the thesis presentations will take place as attendance appointments in the multifunctional room in the Campus Tower on the 1st floor. For this purpose, fixed time slots can be booked. The following corona protection measures must be observed by all participants.

Protection and hygiene concept multifunctional room (document in German)

Information sheet and self-declaration by students (document in German)

The use of the workshops and laboratories is possible under strict consideration of the protection and hygiene concepts.

Use of the model workshop and CNC workshop:

For further information please refer to the website of the model workshop and the corresponding protection and hygiene concept for the use of the model workshop (Document in German).

Unfortunately, conferences and workshops cannot take place on the premises of the HCU until further notice. As soon as use is possible again, all available rooms are used primarily for classroom teaching, followed by examinations. Based on the experience of the 2020 summer semester this leaves no room for events.

The Corona Warning App informs users if they have been in the vicinity of a person who was later found to be infected with the corona virus. This enables a quick reaction and counteracts the risk of spreading the virus unconsciously.

In addition to the tried and tested rules of distance and hygiene and the use of everyday masks, the app is another important component in the fight against the corona pandemic. For the app to fulfil its purpose, it is important that as many people as possible use it. If your smartphone is technically equipped for this, we would like to urge you to install the app.

If you use the app and are informed of an "increased risk", please contact the pandemic centre immediately to coordinate further action. If the warning app shows "red", you should first go into quarantine immediately.

If you are planning to travel abroad privately, please remember that due to the very dynamic situation, entry into the country may involve further quarantine measures.

If you return from trips to (possibly newly declared) risk areas and are subject to the quarantine rules ordered by the authorities, you are not allowed to enter the HCU buildings after your return.

In order to care for and protect eachother, we kindly ask you to make your travel plans very carefully and to reconsider them if necessary.
