What is uni-asisst?

Uni-assist e.V. is the office for international applications. The core task of uni-assist is the evaluation of international school/ university certificates. Uni-assist examines if the submitted school/ university certificates are equivalent to German school/ university degrees, i.e. whether they qualify in principle for admission to university studies in Germany. In addition uni-assist examines if you can prove sufficient language skills. Uni-assist transmit your inspection result in electronical form to the HafenCity University.

You can find preliminary information about your degree by consulting the admissions database of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and access the information portal on recognition of foreign degrees (anabin databank).

 

 

You have to apply via the uni-assist online portal. Please notice that this application is compulsory. Otherwise you can't take part at the selection process of the HafenCity University Hamburg.

Application period for the winter semester:

The application portal of uni-assist will be activated at the beginning of March. The application deadline will be the 15th July, except for the degree programmes Master Architecture and Master REAP. For the three degree programmes the application deadline will be the 1st July.

Application period for the summer semester*:

The application portal of uni-assist will be activated at the beginning of November. The application deadline will be the 15th January.

*Please note that you can apply only in a higher semester for summer semester. As a first semester student you can apply only for winter semester.

school certificates:

  • a certified copy of your assessment test of a German Studienkolleg
  • a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification (for example: high school certificate or A-Level)
  • a certified translation of your higher education entrance qualification (for example: high school certificate or A-Level)

The certificates must be submitted in German or English or translated into one of these languages.Translations will only be accepted if they have been made by certified translators or certified by the proper authorities.

 

Note: An application via uni-assist is only necessary if you don't have a conversion of your foreign school certificate into the German grading system of uni-assist (Evaluation report of uni-assist).

 

 

school certificates:

  • a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification (for example: high school certificate or A-Level)
  • if available, a certified copy of your higher education admissions exam
  • if available, a certified copy of your first academic degree or Transcript of Records, if not finished yet
  • certified translations of all certificates

The certificates must be submitted in German or English or translated into one of these languages.Translations will only be accepted if they have been made by certified translators or certified by the proper authorities.

proof of language skills:

  • a certified copy of your language certificate
  • if not available, a registration to a language course or language test

For all Bachelor degree programmes you need sufficient German skills. Which German language certificates we accept you can find here.

 

school and university certificates:

  • a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification (for example: high school certificate or A-Level)
  • a certified copy of your first academic degree with an average grade (absolute mark) and an ECTS-grading (relative mark) (if you are still completing your academic degree and you are unable to submit a certificate or diploma, please submit a certified copy of your transcript of records with an average grade and an ECTS-grading or an ECTS-grading table)
  • if your university can't provide an ECTS-grading or ECTS-grading table please submit an equivalent certificate of the issued university (If you acquired your first academic degree in a Non-EU country you can replace the certificate with a statutory declaration) (The ECTS-grading is not necessary for the Master degree programme Geomatic)
  • certified translations of all certificates

proof of language skills:

  • if not available, a registration to a language course or language test

For some Master degree programmes where the language of instruction is German. Sufficient German langugage skills is an entrance requirement. For the Master degree programmes Geodesy and Geoinformatics (only the specialisation Hydrography) and REAP you need English language skills because the lanugage of instruction is English. You will find more information about the language requirements in the specific admission regulation (BZO) of the particular degree programmes or here.

The inspection of your documents is with costs. Please inform yourself directly at uni-assist how much you have to pay. Once you have submitted your documents to uni-assist, you need to transfer your fee to uni-assist's bank account. Please note that uni-assist will only review your documents once you have transferred the processing fee.

Uni-assist can take up to four weeks to process your documents. Please include enough time for the inspection of your documents at uni-assist.
