Heather Troutman, B.Sc.

Heather Troutman is a Master's student of Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning at HafenCity University Hamburg. She received a Bachelor's of Environmental Science from North Carolina State University in 2014, specializing in sustainable design. For the past five years Ms. Troutman's research has focused on the role that plastics and other petrochemicals play in contemporary, urban societies and best practices for preventing plastic packaging litter in the marine environment. Using life cycle assessment, Ms. Troutman aims to quantify the full environmental impact and needed energy inputs for plastic-based insulation materials, such as polystyrene, under various energy-efficiency retrofitting models for the city of Hamburg.
