Regular (degree) students

APPLICATION PROCESS for degree seeking students
(Exchange students please skip the following part and jump to ERASMUS):

You can find very detailed information on entry requirements and the application procedure for regular students on our application website

Please note:  As a non German applicant you have to apply via uniAssist first. uniAssist checks all your documents and certificates on legal aspects etc.  In a second step of application you ALSO have to do the online application at HCU directly within the deadline as described on our website.

The application via UniAssist can be started some 4 months prior to the official application schdeule at HCU. It is highly recommended to start the UniAssist application as early as possible, in order to make sure that all documents will have been checked in time.

Finally, for questions regarding the required language tests please read the information on our german and our english prerequesites.

If questions remain regarding the application process that the website does not answer, please post your question to our central student services department, solely via our online FAQ system:  ticket.hcu-hamburg.de/open.php

- After we receive the official nomination by our partners, we will send an email containing all necessary information and application documents to you directly.

- The resp. deadlines are:

Nomination by partner university

before winter term: 01. May           before summer term: 15. November

Application by student

before winter term: 01. June          before summer term: 15. December

- The Exchange application documents therefore cannot be found on this website.

- Especially with regards to your Learning Agreements our Erasmus tutors provide all in-depths infos to the incoming students. You will get the contact information with the acceptance mail.

- Please note the language prerequesites at HCU: upon application a minimium german level of A 2 is being asked for, except in civil engineering and geomatics, where the minimum german level is B 1.

YOU@HCU Welcome Buddy Program

Dear  new international students,

At the beginning of your studies you may find yourself in a quite challenging situation: you are in a foreign country far from home, you have to communicate in a language, which you probably don't fully master yet, and you have to come to terms with an unfamiliar educational system.

You may even ponder questions such as, "Where do I find the next supermarket? What formalities do I have to complete?", thinking that there is nobody around to help you.

To help new international students settle in, we offer a free buddy program.  We have asked experienced students at HCU to be of help to new students by acting as their "buddy". Buddies are to assist you with questions relating to your study course as well as to life at HCU in general; and they can show you around, help you in mastering potential difficulties and making you feel at home :)

With an experienced buddy at your side you can be able to get to know the university life in Hamburg quicker, to get familiar with the leisure activities that suit you. If you have any questions or need some advice, if you just want to have a coffee or go out for a drink, your buddy should be among the first persons to ask.

We warmly invite you to participate in the YOU@HCU Welcome Buddy Program - just drop us a line with your name and your study program welcome-you(at)hcu-hamburg.de .  At the end of July/February, at the latest, your personal HCU Welcome Buddy will get in touch with you per email :)

YOU@HCU is a joint project of the International Office and the AStA, which wants to give a hearty Welcome to all new international students and give assistance especially not only, but especially in the first few weeks after your arrival in Hamburg. Offered are a Welcome Buddy Programme, an International Welcome Week  well as a cultural / leisure programm (check out our current semester programme here) .
