YOU@HCU Welcome Buddy Program

Dear  all,

First of all, we would like to welcome those of you who come as a new student to the HCU in winter semester 2011/12!

At the beginning of your studies you may find yourself in a quite challenging situation: you are in a foreign country far from home, you have to communicate in a language, which you probably don't fully master yet, and you have to come to terms with an unfamiliar educational system.

You may even ponder questions such as, "Where do I find the next supermarket? What formalities do I have to complete?", thinking that there is nobody around to help you.

To help new international students settle in, we offer a free buddy program.  We have asked experienced students at HCU to be of help to new students by acting as their "buddy". Buddies are to assist you with questions relating to your study course as well as to life at HCU in general; and they can show you around, help you in mastering potential difficulties and making you feel at home :)

With an experienced buddy at your side you can be able to get to know the university life in Hamburg quicker, to get familiar with the leisure activities that suit you. If you have any questions or need some advice, if you just want to have a coffee or go out for a drink, your buddy should be among the first persons to ask.

We warmly invite you to participate in the YOU@HCU Welcome Buddy Program - please fill in the registration form under this link http://tinyurl.com/buddy-needed .  At the end of July, at the latest, your personal HCU Welcome Buddy will get in touch with you per email :)

YOU@HCU

YOU@HCU is a joint project of the International Office and the AStA, which wants to give a hearty Welcome to all new international students and give assistance especially not only, but especially in the first few weeks after your arrival in Hamburg. Offered are a Welcome Buddy Programme, an International Welcome Week  well as a cultural / leisure programm (check out our current semester programme here) .

Free Mover

At the HCU you can do Bachelor and Master Programmes in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geomatics and Urban Planning as well as Master studies in Resource Efficiency in Architecture And Planning (REAP) (taught in English), in Hydrography (taught in English), Geomatics and in Urban Design. You will find detailed information on our study programmes here. Most of the information for the time being will be only in German, since most HCU programmes also are being taught in German only. Good German language skills therefore are a vital prerequisite for studying in most programmes at the HCU.

Depending on your envisaged status, the application process will differ:
