Studying at the HCU

Here you will find important information about your studies at the HCU.

Here you can find the course descriptions for all degrees.

Here you can find the professors responsible for academic advising. Advisors specifically for international students can be found here.

Each year has two semesters.  The summer semester is from April 1st until September 30th, and the winter semester is from October 1st until March 31st

Lecture period (“Vorlesungszeit”): In the summer semester, lectures start the beginning of April and go until the middle of July.  In the winter semester, lectures are from the middle of October until the middle of February.

Exams:  There are two weeks of exams that start one week after classes finish.  The week between lectures and exams is sometimes used for oral exams.  At the HCU you have to register for your exams.  This is usually done by putting your name on a list a month before exams start, but might be different depending on the course.  If you are unsure about how to register, ask your professor.

Lecture-free period (“Vorlesungsfreie Zeit”): The lecture-free period is the period between exams and the beginning of lectures, in which no classes take place.  In the summer semester, there is also a lecture free week (excursion week) in the week after Pentecost.  In the winter semester, there is a two week break around the Christmas period.

Before the beginning of each semester the semester fees have to be transferred to the HCU, as done when first enrolling in the university. You have to pay these three weeks before the start of the next semester, in order to stay enrolled at the university.
