Bachelor programmes at the HCU

The HafenCity University Hamburg offers bachelor and master programmes in all of its disciplines.

The bachelor programmes of HCU Hamburg correspond, in particular, to the current demands for a professional education and provide the relevant foundation in the respective field of study. At the same time, the growing specialisation of careers dealing with the designed environment and its economic, social and ecological constraints requires graduates to be able to understand and work with a wider range of topics, problems and protagonists. It is thus important that students have a firm foundation in their specific disciplines; at the same time, they must, however, be able to deal with the different ways in which other branches of study view, understand and interact with the world. Due to the wide range of its specific disciplines, HCU Hamburg opens up this special understanding of the neighbouring disciplines involved in the planning, design and construction within building and urban development processes. Innovation in the special range of disciplines results in innovation in each of our bachelor programmes.

Bachelor in Architecture

The design, development and implementation of architectural projects lie at the heart of the bachelor’s degree in architecture at the HafenCity University (HCU).

Bachelor in Civil Engineering

The aim of the bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for the planning, execution and maintenance of structural and civil engineering structures and buildings as well as of traffic engineering and water management & resources engineering.

Bachelor in Geomatics

Studying geomatics at the HCU involves the surveying, management, analysis and presentation of geospatial data using cutting-edge technology and in the context of the construction and development of metropolitan areas.

Bachelor in Urban Planning

The aim of the bachelor’s degree in urban planning is to provide students with the ability to analyse planning-related economical, social and ecological processes as well as their spatial interactions and to implement the results of said analyses in the form of strategic concepts.

Metropolitan Culture

The cultural dimension of metropolises is the focus of the new bachelor programme in metropolitan culture, which will commence at the HafenCity University Hamburg in the 2009/10 winter semester.

Q-Studies

The [Q]-STUDIES are the unique feature of the HCU and an important didactic building block in the university's curriculum. The [Q]-STUDIES develop, in exceptional co-operations, a concept specific to the HCU, by communicating and reflecting on different ways of thinking, action-orientated knowledge and perceptions in all bachelor and master programmes.
