HCU Deferral
Even if you have no right to payment deferral at the WK, the HCU may offer you, under certain circumstances, a deferral
Foreign students who are not yet 45 years old and who have no right to apply for a payment deferral of the tuition fees in accordance with article 6c of the Hamburg Higher Education Law, can apply for a deferral directly to the HCU. The tuition fees can then be deferred for the duration of the course at the HafenCity University Hamburg, at the longest, however, for the standard period of study of the attended degree course plus two additional semesters. You can assert your right to a payment deferral if you can not pay the tuition fees during the degree course based on your attributable income. The assessment threshold for the attributable income is based on the Federal Education and Training Assistance Act maximum rate plus a sixth of the tuition fees.
Applying for the Tuition Fees Payment Deferral
With effect from the 2009 summer semester, the application must be submitted before the start of the semester (i.e. up to and including March 31, or up to and including September 30 of a particular year) to the HCU Student Administration. You must, at the same time, state your income situation.
