Exemptions from the Obligation to pay Tuition Fees

The Hamburg Higher Education Law envisages that students can be exempted from having to pay tuition fees under certain premises. In accordance with article 6b section 4 of the Hamburg Higher Education Law (HmbHG), this includes students

  • who are registered as doctoral candidates or for a comparable degree course,
  • have taken a leave of absence ...more
  • or are registered as exchange or programme students as part of agreements which guarantee exemption from duties.

In accordance with the new legislation, students who are participating in an internship can be exempted from paying tuition fees if the university has specified this in a statute. The HCU uses this option to financially relieve students. For this purpose, you must, however, complete an internship as planned in accordance with the examination regulations and study regulations. The internship must cover a period which corresponds to the major part of the lecture period (i.e. more than twelve weeks)...more
